modified Gravid Trap*

Gravid traps attract mosquitoes looking for a place to lay tehir eggs.  The oak or grass sod infused water is the attractant.  The gravid mosquito flies near the water in the traps' pan and a fan draws the mosquito into the traps' funnel.  The mosquito then flies out a shute to the collection chamber.  The trap and the collection chamber is designed to keep the mosquitoes alive.  It is possible to feed them a sweet water solution inorder to collect their saliva.  The pooled saliva's RNA can then be tested for a possible pathogen using LAMP.  If the test is positive, a confirmation using can be done since the pool of mosquitoes is intact.
